Firstly, thank you for visiting the Bourne Knives website.

The man behind Bourne Knives is Andy Bourne MBE. I’m a serving officer in the British Army and a proud member of the Royal Irish Regiment, an infantry regiment with a long and distinguished history.

Currently, I am the commanding officer of The 1st Battalion of The Royal Irish Regiment, based in Shropshire, having just graduated from the UK Advanced Command and Staff Course.

Meet the Maker…

I’ve been making knives since 2018. My journey began when my son watched a TV show called “Forged in Fire” and asked if we could have a go at making a knife. We did. He got bored and I got hooked.

That first knife was not great, as you can imagine. However, each knife got better than the last as my skills and tooling improved, to the point when I was content to give some away as gifts to family. Word then spread and I started to receive enquiries about custom builds; it all then just snowballed from there really.

I now specialise in low-volume, heirloom quality, one-off knives. I take pleasure in sourcing the very best materials and am meticulous in each build. Indeed, a single knife takes around 25 hours to complete.

Even though I’m in the Army, knife-making is my passion. There is a therapeutic quality to it and every knife challenges me in new ways.

The best part about making a tool though (and function must come before form) is when it is in the hand of the customer and you get amazing feedback. It’s a great feeling to know a tool you have made, (whether for the kitchen or the field) is being put to good use and giving someone great pleasure to use it.
